About Indian Lake

We're proud to be a part of the Indian Lake Region!

Indian Lake is located on U.S.Route 33 ,about sixty miles northwest of Columbus in Logan County, Ohio. A short drive from neighboring Bellefontaine,Kenton,Sidney and Wapakoneta and within an hour's drive from Dayton,Springfield and Lima. Practically a straight shoot east of Interstate 75. Once billed as "Ohio's Million Dollar Playground",it was and still is a center for family fun and activities. Thousands of weekenders still flock to the Lake to enjoy boating, fishing and just relaxing. With six thousand acres, there is plenty of room for the above activities. There are parks, camping, boating and good fishing areas throughout the region. WRPO first came on the air on May 27, 2002 serving Indian Lake and vicinity exclusively...with partner station WOHP in Huntsville on August 23, 2014 simulcasting our programming and reaching towards Bellefontaine and the neighboring communities of DeGraff, Jackson Center and Maplewood.

Back in time,Indian Lake was a hoppin' place. There was a padllewheel boat and many shiny Chris Craft boats on the lake that took visitors for rides and pointed out places of interest.

The wooden roller coaster at Sandy Beach Amusement Park was a favorite that all attended. Every weekend the place was host to many of the Big Bands of the day....such as Glenn Miller,Stan Kenton,Count Basie and many more. Visitors had their choice of several dance halls with a different band at each of them. WRPO brought back the Big Band Sound as our first format from our inception in 2002 until 2008. We then switched to Smooth Jazz and again in 2009 to oldies.

The many sandy beaches and fine hotels attracted thousands of visitors each weekend. The Amusement Park, located in Russells Point harbor had all sorts of rides, games and places to eat. The park closed in 1972 and was demolished in 1982,but the old iron bridge still stands as a reminder of the happy times we all enjoyed so very much. Wouldn't it have been great to be a youngster in those days and have enjoyed those times? Sure sounds as if it would have been FUN!
